Introduction

The 3D printed Crush Covid Bracelet encourages a fighting spirit against the Covid-19 pandemic and at the same time provides a convenient way to sterilize your hands (or small objects) when you're out shopping for food or medicine.

The bracelet contains an integrated 3 milliliter misting spray bottle which can dispense approximately 50 misty sprays of hand sanitizer (or 70% alcohol). Instead of having to fumble through pockets or purses finding bottles or tubes of sanitizer, your Crush Covid Bracelet can instantly spray antimicrobial solutions whenever needed. You can conveniently disinfect your hands anytime, anywhere in just a few seconds.

Twenty five percent of the proceeds of the Crush Covid Bracelet are donated to health care relief charities that are helping out with the Covid-19 crisis, so purchasing this product helps fight the pandemic both for you personally as well as helping others.

Some examples of use:

  • Sanitize your hands after opening a restroom door
  • Spray directly on hard surfaces like shopping cart or shopping basket handles before even touching them.
  • Spray your hands after bringing in mail or packages

The convenience of having a sprayer right on your wrist means you'll use it far more often, and that means an increased level of protection.

Warnings and Notices

  • The Crush Covid Bracelet is meant for situations where it's not practical to wash your hands immediately, such as when food shopping. In general, it is more effective to wash your hands rather than use antimicrobial sanitizer.
  • Never spray antimicrobial liquids in your eyes or near your mouth. Most are eye irritants or may even cause damage to eyes, and they are not meant to be ingested.
  • Never let young children use this product. Because antimicrobials are eye irritants and not meant for ingestion, this product should only be used by adults.
  • After an outing, wipe down the Crush Covid Bracelet with antimicrobial solution, or better yet wash it off under the faucet so that it does not become a source of contamination.
  • Depending on hand size, it may take 2 to 4 sprays to apply enough sanitizer to coat both hands for an adult. So the 3ml spray bottle carries enough sanitizer for 12 to 25 applications. It's meant to be used for short outings.

What Kinds of Liquids Work Best With the Bracelet?

Here are some recommendations on what liquids to put in the sprayer:

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends antimicrobial sanitizers that are at least 70% alcohol.
  • Therefore, you can simply use 70% or 91% isopropyl or ethanol alcohol directly and it will work very well. Some people find repeated use of straight alcohol dries out their hands. In that case, use a moisturizer once or twice a day to compensate.
  • There are recipes online for combining alcohol and additives like Aloe Vera to make your own antimicrobial. For one article (which is based directly on WHO recipes) see: Wired Magazine's Article on DIY Sanitizer
  • You can of course use a commercial hand sanitizer. It is best to avoid "gel" types which do not work quite as well with the sprayer. (Gels will not "mist" but will come out in a clump). Sanitizers that are more liquidy will work better with the sprayer.
  • DO NOT use alcoholic beverages like vodka. They typically do not meet the WHO requirement of 70% alcohol content.
  • However, if rubbing alcohol is not in stock at your store, you can use clear grain alcohols that are at least 140 proof and should be available from liquor stores. For example, Everclear 190 or 151 Grain Alcohols do meet the WHO requirement because 190 proof = 95% alcohol and 151 proof = 75.5%. You could even slightly dilute the 190 proof version with boiled, sterile water (2 parts water to 7 parts Everclear 190 results in just over 70% content).

Filling the Spray Bottle

Follow these steps to fill the spray bottle:

  • Remove the Crush Covid Bracelet from your wrist and place it on a clean surface. Wash your hands.
  • Unscrew the top of the spray bottle. (NOTE: Do not pull the little spray nozzle off, unscrew the entire top as shown in the pictures below).
  • Use an eyedropper or pipette to dispense antimicrobial liquid into the bottle.
  • Screw the top on firmly, and aim the sprayer forward.

Putting on the Crush Covid Bracelet

See the video, or follow these instructions:

  • Place the sprayer portion of the bracelet next to your wrist, typically the palm side of your wrist.
  • Wrap the band around your wrist, and tuck the end of the band into the slot.
  • Keep pushing the band into the slot from the top until you reach a comfortable tightness.
  • The band should hold by friction under normal use.
  • To remove, pull the band back out of the slot from the top.
